On December 6th, the National Pawnbrokers Association is sponsoring our Second Annual Musical Instrument Gift Day. This special national event is in celebration of National Pawnbrokers Day, which coincides with St. Nicholas Day. In the spirit of St. Nick’s compassion, generosity, and hope, pawn stores nationwide will work with local communities, schools, and charity organizations to donate musical instruments to fledgling music programs in desperate need of equipment.
Saint Nicholas of Myra is famed for his generosity to the poor and for his penchant for secretly leaving gifts for people in need. Historians often recount how he saved a poor man’s daughters from being sold into servitude by throwing three bags of gold into the father’s window at night. St. Nicholas, now recognized the world over as Santa Claus, was canonized as the Patron Saint of pawnbroking, and his three bags of gold soon became the international symbol of pawn brokers.
The NPA invites you to get into the holiday spirit and help support this very important cause. Research shows that children who study music excel in mathematics, language and reading development, and critical thinking skills. This is a great opportunity to reach out to your neighborhood, to improve a child’s life, and to remind the public that pawnbrokers are here to help their communities.
In this time of economic hardship, a positive spirit and a generous heart will bring people together and help pawnbrokers forge stronger relationships with their communities. With our combined efforts, we can improve the lives and educations of needy children across the country.
